LKAB’s means of production include personnel, machinery, plants and media. Supporting, streamlining and developing LKAB’s production and logistics systems is how we intend to meet the increased demands of the future.
The project department works with all aspects of LKAB’s systems. The department’s main objective is to deliver as smooth a flow as possible from mine to port. Projects often aim to streamline daily management of LKAB’s numerous processes, optimise production at all plants, and eliminate unnecessary use of resources. In this respect, there are also huge challenges in terms of digital technology for project planning and documentation. For that reason, constant development work is taking place within projects, big and small.
Over the course of a year, LKAB’s standard project portfolio tends to include around 200 ongoing projects and assignments, as well as investment projects in the order of SEK 2 billion.
If LKAB’s dynamics are to improve, then we need to utilise the creative potential of our employees and support projects from idea to concept and test them on a pilot scale using actual or digital methods.
Working methods and creative development will play an important part when it comes to LKAB having to make decisions in 2025 about methods for the next stage of vertical mining and new mining levels at both underground mines. New methods have to be developed that can deliver larger production volumes at reduced costs.
