Safe and secure working environments

Safety is always first at LKAB – in all situations

Everyone working for LKAB should be able to do so in a safe, secure and stimulating working environment. Regardless of whether you work in a mine, a processing operation, a laboratory or any of our other operational sites, everyone must come home safe and sound and feel good after a shift.

Our business encompasses more than 200 occupations situated in a variety of environments, such as offices, crushers, railways, harbours to industrial environments with noise, heat and moving machinery, which makes it necessary for the work environment management to be based on a solid foundation, and for us to take preemptive measures to create safe and secure environments. LKAB is dedicated to active work environment efforts, where every employee has an important role to play. There are various forums where we can discuss and highlight the areas of our operation where the work environment is insufficient. This gives us the opportunity to remedy the shortcomings and work preemptively to create safe and secure environments.

Focusing on specific areas helps develop the workenvironment

To meet our goal of zero accidents and healthy employees, we must not only work systematically with health and safety. There must also be a culture in place, a culture where we safeguard our own safety and wellbeing, as well as that of others. As a result, LKAB has spent the last couple of years focusing on matters related to safety culture, as well as on the social and organisational working environment. Two examples of this is that all our workplaces must have clearly stated norms and rules in our everyday work, and that we conduct internal training sessions where we discuss matters and learn more about security and safe behaviour. It is an ongoing process, and all our employees help us moving forward.

Occupational health and safety should be a natural part of the work, and shouldn’t be seen as something separate. In my job, I make sure that we work with KMA issues all the way from procurement in the construction stage to the follow-up of our projects. I want to inspire others to carry out their tasks in a safe manner.
