Sustainable purchasing

Conveyor belt in the mine

Sustainable and efficient purchasing are central aspects of LKAB’s work to strenghten competitiveness. We choose to work with the most competitive and sustainable suppliers in order to create added value for LKAB and our customers.

As part of our work to achieve sustainable development, LKAB has developed a number of basic requirements for our suppliers. The requirements are based on guidelines from the UN and the OECD. The purpose is to ensure that we work with suppliers who share our values regarding sustainability and who have the ambition of being at the forefront in respect of these issues.

Ongoing development work

Through constant improvement work alongside our suppliers, LKAB is contributing to developments within social, financial and environmental sustainability, both for us and our suppliers.

We like our suppliers to participate in a constructive, transparent and developing dialogue about improvements and how we together can contribute to being role models in sustainability. Part of this development work is the implementation of sustainability revisions at our suppliers and its value chain to ensure responsible supplier levels.

Values for a long-term collaboration

Based on a number of criteria, a risk assessment is made of existing and future suppliers based on LKAB’s Supplier Code of Conduct. It contains clear requirements within areas such as human rights, working and employment conditions, the environment, emergency preparedness, fire protection and business ethics. The requirements reflect our fundamental values, as well as external stakeholders’ expectations regarding the long-term, sustainable development of LKAB’s business.

Read the Supplier Code of Conduct here.

The aim of the Supplier Handbook is to provide suppliers with an overall picture of our rules. These rules cover all suppliers who carry out work within LKAB’s operations, both within and outside of our industrial areas.
